1.) Be In The Present Moment
This allows you to be happier and more appreciative of life. A lot of us worry about what happened yesterday or what's about to happen tomorrow, but this causes us nothing but pain, frustration and stress.
Take the time to be fully present, not drift off into spirals of thought that lead nowhere. Listen to the wind blow, the leaves rustle, the clock tick and enjoy the intricacies of our world.
"If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present." - Lao Tzu
One of my favourite books, The Power Of Now By Eckhart Tolle, shows how not living in the now can cause great despair - "Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry, all forms of fear are caused by too much future, and not enough presence." - Eckhart Tolle
2.) Eat A Balanced Diet
Eating right is not only essential to reduce stress and anxiety but also for a healthy, happier life in general. Some people may begin to over eat unhealthy foods when stressed (stress eat).
These high fat and high sugar foods provide us with a sense of relief in the short run as we get that instant dopamine hit, but we'll end up suffering in the long run.
Keeping the foods you consume organic, natural and fresh can completely change the way you feel and look, and in turn change you life. Try to eat foods like eggs, avocado, nuts, grass fed meats and fish, all of which are highly effective at relieving stress.
3.) Exercise Regularly
Exercising regularly not only keeps you looking like a boss, but has huge mental health benefits too. It lowers the stress hormone dramatically (cortisol) and it also releases endorphins which improve your mood and act as a natural pain killer for your body.
Sleep is also improved by exercise which will then have profound effects on your energy and in turn your stress levels.
4.) Diffuser With Essential Oils
Aromatherapy has countless benefits to help with stress relief. It helps boost mood, happiness, motivation, energy and even allows you to be more present in the moment.
Studies have shown that certain scents can alter brain waves and reduce stress hormone in the body.
Oils like lavender & frankincense contain natural healing properties that can be paired with a diffuser to help alleviate stress and anxiety. You can feel more in harmony in your day to day life and experience instant relief at home.
5.) Pick Up A Hobby
If you have the time, try to pick up a hobby, find something that you really enjoy doing with a group of people. This will take you away from the mess going on in your life where you can relax, have fun and be present with what you're doing.
6.) Express Gratitude
Try this when you wake up tomorrow morning. As soon you get out of the bed, write down 5 things you're grateful for, it shouldn't be superficial but things that have true meaning and things that you are truly grateful for.
It could be something as simple as 'I'm grateful to see my son smile this morning'. This allows you to establish what matters most in life, and allows you to be thankful for what you already have leaving you in a more positive state.
7.) Meditate
Meditation allows a person to be in the present moment, and as mentioned above, living in the moment is very important to living a happier, more fulfilled life without suffering from anxiety and stress.
There are many different types of meditation, find one that you like doing and stick with it. Maybe you want to practice with deep breathing or maybe you just want to sit still and think nothing. Either way you'll be able to see a shift in your body and mind with your first try.
8.) Hug Someone
A simple hug can go a long way. Oxytocin is released when being hugged, which causes an instant reduction in blood pressure, stress hormone and can leave you feeling relaxed.
